Mainly used in the field of meteorological measurements for measuring longwave radiation (far infrared region). The measurements target wavelengths exceeding 4.5 μm. Longwave radiation can be obtained from the output signal of the thermopile and the temperature of the longwave radiometer, with the temperature measured by a built-in 10kΩ NTC in the longwave radiometer. By adding another longwave radiometer to measure upward infrared radiation and an albedometer to measure shortwave radiation (<3 μm), it can also be used for energy balance investigations.
